Individuals, one of our most popular braiding styles gives you a new look, that is versatile, easily managed, and very elegant.  Our braids are ideal for women on the go, athletic women, professional women, or all three.  Individuals are great for any woman, of any color, of any profession, and of any personality.

Cornrows or French Braids as many people know it is the original beautiful braid.  While it does not give the same versatility as individuals, it is still a great style.  For many women, they don’t want the flexibility of individuals.  They prefer to leave it in the same style as it was originally braided.  While this style is great for all women, those who want the hairstyle to be of absolute low maintenance will find this style to be their favorite.

“Weave Alternative”, our own creation is also very popular at Angel Hair Braids.  We came up with this technique over 20 years ago, and while others have imitated the name, they have never been able to duplicate our technique.  It is the Angel Hair Braids alternative to weaving.  At our salon, we understand that everyone does not desire the “braid look” so we created the “Weave Alternative.”  Although your hair is completely braided, the braids are literally invisible.  This style is perfect for women who have trouble with their own hair.  This could include length, texture, or inconsistency in the person’s hair.  With this fabulous technique, you now have a cure for all.

All of our styles at Angel Hair Braids are great.  We have several because we know everyone is different.  We also understand that braids may be temporary for some people who just desire a certain look for a certain time or for individuals who are interested in an expeditious natural hair repairing remedy.

Unlike so many other salons that are out there, at Angel Hair Braids we want to ensure that your hair is being cared for underneath those wonderful extensions.  It’s wonderful to have beautiful braids, but if your natural hair is suffering, are those braids really beautiful?

Below you will find ways to keep your braids looking beautiful as well as developing or maintaining healthy hair.

A.  At Angel Hair Braids, we believe your hair is somewhat comparable to a plant.  It needs moisture!  Without moisture it will not grow and the hair that is healthy will become unhealthy and damaged.

  • Upon getting your hair braided you should select your favorite leave in conditioners.
  • Transfer the leave in conditioner into a spray bottle for easy application.
  • Thoroughly, spray your hair a minimum of once every three days.  This is the first key to hair growth.

B Your Hair and your Pillow should never meet.

  • Always tie your hair down with a silk, satin, or nylon scarf.  NEVER COTTON!  Cotton is lovely on your skin, not on your hair.  While silk, satin and nylon protects the hair and keeps the frizzles away… (You know the annoying hair that stands up on top of your braids like a mini-afro), cotton encourages frizzles to appear.  Cotton also damages your hair.  It is not a good material for natural or extension hair.  So this means, cotton pantyhose, bandanas, and cotton scarves are a NO!  We suggest that for added care, you even tie your hair down while putting on and removing your shirt.

C  Don’t tie your hair down dry!

  • Here’s where the moisture comes back in.  There are some of us who sleep wild.  We chase the scarf through the night or wake up with no scarf at all.  Spraying a little leave-in conditioner in your hair before applying your scarf will help serve two purposes.  It will help to prevent the scarf from coming off as well as add moisture to your hair.

Note:  This is not a supplement for the thorough every 3 day conditioning your hair needs.

D. Wash Your Hair for Added Care.

  • Washing your hair with braids should not be a big task.  Although you are now washing both your natural hair and the extension hair, you basically do it the same as you would your natural hair.
  • Simply thoroughly shampoo your hair.  Start with a massage to the roots of your hair and work your way to the bottom.  Rinse thoroughly.
  • Next you must condition your hair.  This process should take longer because conditioning your hair is so important.  Rub the conditioner throughout your hair.  Let it stay on as directed on bottle and rinse thoroughly.
  • Some people choose to let their hair air dry.  That’s fine if you drain all excess water.  If you are not sure that you have drained all of the excess water, you may choose to blow it dry with cool air or sit under the dryer.
  • Remember your braids are definitely fine to be washed.  There are some textures that should be washed less often.  We recommend the average person wash their hair once every two weeks.  For thinner, finer textures, you should be gentler when washing your hair.

E. Don’t Have a Scratching Attack.

  • There are some people that scratch their hair as if there’s something crawling in it or others that beat their head with the palm of their hand as if they are trying to keep something inside of their head.
  • The first thing that will keep your hair from itching so much is keeping it clean so be sure to follow the instructions in section D.
  • Something else that helps is moisture.  Once again moisture is the key to great hair.  Dry hair tends to be itchier and the aggravation of scratching can also break the hair.
  • For some who have naturally dry scalp, you may want to give yourself a hot oil treatment or deep condition your hair more often for added moisture.
  • If you must scratch your scalp, try to at least scratch in the direction the braids have been braided.  Do not go against the way the braids fall as this will result in decreased time with your style.

F. Combing Through Your Braids

  • For those of you who choose to keep the ends of your braids open or those with the “Weave Alternative”, there is a way to comb your hair without damaging the braids.
  • You must always work your way from the bottom up.  A vent brush is an absolute must.  Start with small sections.
  • Hold a small amount of the braids in your hand while using the vent brush from the bottom up.  Using this method will ensure that you untangle all of your hair.
  • Do not rake over your hair.  You must thoroughly comb through it.  If you don’t you will end up with a mess.  Your hair will be tangled and you may damage the hair and the braids.  This should be done daily.
  • Remember some shedding may occur, however there should not be large amounts of hair coming out during this process.  This is not normal, if this occurs; you should contact us immediately and find out what you’re doing wrong.

G. Repairs for Added Care.

  • Certain hair grows faster than others.  While the average set of braids lasts about three months or more, sometimes people need just a little something extra to get through the last month or so.  For some people this is unnecessary, for others, it’s more necessary.   There are also a few people who do not like new growth at all, so they consider the repair a must have.
  • The “Halo Repair.” We recommend the repair for people for different reasons.  Our number one reason which abides by our hair care motto is because of new growth.  Sometimes, your natural hair grows faster than anticipated and frankly there are some people who will keep their braids in as long as they are attached to some part of their head.  We suggest that you repair your hair to prevent your hair from breaking.  If your braid is dangling from your natural hair, it’s time for the braids to be repaired.  This repair usually consists of the braids around the perimeter of your head; we refer to this as the “Halo Repair.”
  • For others the repair is strictly cosmetic and can consist of the perimeter repair or the one half repair.  The perimeter repair as mentioned above consists of mainly the edges.  The one half repair is about half of your braids and start from the perimeter on…You have the option of choosing which braids need the most immediate attention.  We will also assist in helping you decide what areas of your hair to repair.

H. Removing the Braids.

  • There is NO easy way to do this.  The beauty products you find in stores will not “ease” the braid right out.  You cannot start from the top and make the braid slide out.  We all have friends, but don’t count on your friends to love your hair the way you do.  There is No easy way.
  • Unless you or someone you know absolutely knows what they are doing, you should not remove the braids on your own. After all, this entire pamphlet is dedicated to healthy hair.  Removing the braids improperly will damage your hair.
  • If you are removing the braids on your own, you should first have the right tools.  This can include a fine tooth comb, a nail, a tool from a sewing kit, etc…
  • Next you must find out where your hair ends.  While we don’t want to pretend our hair goes to our bottoms, we also don’t want to underestimate the length of it.  What we recommend is that you remove a few braids first (per section) and use that as your guideline for cutting.  For those of you that don’t trust yourself cutting, you will need to spend more time and remove excess hair also.
  • Start from the bottom up.  Using your chosen tool, you must insert the tool in between the stitches of the braid and carefully bring it out.  Continue this pattern until you have removed the entire braid.  There may be slight tangling at the top from where the braid was started, but this is nothing major at all if you follow the following steps.
  • Once you have removed all of the braids, you will need to comb your hair out.  We recommend using the vent brush for this also.  You may spray a leave in conditioner or detangler in your hair while combing it out, this really helps to detangle the hair.
  • If you have been keeping your hair moisturized the entire time it was in braids, your take down will be substantially easier.

Again, at Angel Hair Braids we cater to you.  We want you to feel beautiful because you are beautiful.  When you remove the braids, your natural hair will not be a disappointment because it will be growing beautifully while braided.  Remember this pamphlet is only our recommendations and you are always encouraged to do what you believe works for your hair.  We are always open for any questions or concerns you may have.  You are encouraged to call us anytime or come in for more personal attention for the absolute best hair care possible!
